How do different hydrometeor sedimentation assumptions in two-moment microphysical parameterization schemes impact MCS kinematics and dynamics?

Findings: 
  • Sedimentation settings that enable preferential large graupel fallout beneath updrafts created buoyancy-induced low pressure anomaly near the melting level
  • Low pressure anomaly near melting level contributes to (a) stronger environmental dry air intrusion into the MCS, and (b) reduction in updraft tilt
  • Dynamical responses summarized above are beneficial to updraft intensification
